Hey,
I was wondering if there are any rules for ADAT Optical Cable Lengths. Do all the cables in the studio need to be the same length, or can they be different lengths? Thank-you, Ian

I don't know what the limit is but I see 14M Toslinks for sale. I use lightpipe in my studio w a HOSA patchbay and I don't see that different signal path lengths make any difference. If you had really long cables or several junctions you would suffer some brightness loss. I have thought about running 20' of Toslink but changed my mind not because of potential problems but because of workflow concerns. Fiberoptics don't degrade the signal the way coax cable does since you are basically directing a beam of light down a plastic or glass tube.

Thanks IP. I'm re-wiring with a Z-Systems Optical Patchbay and my Optical connections are different lengths from the unit.

u can surely use different lenth cables of adat.
but if one cable is so long that the signal is getting weak,u have to boost the signal level to make it ok. u may find the boost option in most recording softwares. |

HOSA makes a "repeater" device that boosts the signal for very long runs...something like 500'.

I got it all figured out using my handy dandy measuring tape. Thanks for the help.
