record on a mac book

hey..ok here is the situation...
1. i used to record with a pc, mixer and mic, the mixer and the pc where connected with an rca wire 2 outlets white and red....now that ive moved to la i got me this mac book but dont really know how to connect the mixer....is it possible? if not what else should i get to connect the mic

2. got logic on my mac now..but for some reason when i hit record it ony plays but the recording doesnt get captured..does that have something to do with the soundcard?? do i need to buy a soundcard?? or what is it?

would really appreciate it if someone could answer me these 2 questions.

There's an 1/8" line input on the side of your MacBook, you can plug into that. Ideally you'd want a dedicated recording interface (USB or FireWire) to use.

Don't know for sure about Logic, but do you have your tracks record enabled? If you don't have your mixer connected, what are you recording?

whats the cheapest way because i will use the mic only to pre record the stuff ill take to the studio...
how can i check if i have the tracks record enabled? i was trying to record with the integrated mac mic and even if theres no signal coming in the recorded part should still be red but its not...

If you're just using it to record ideas and scratch tracks, you could probably get by with the built in audio. If your mixer has RCA outputs, this cable would work.

I only used Logic 7 a long time ago so I'm not too up on the software anymore. However, when a track is record enabled, the "R" button would likely be red or flashing red. If you weren't seeing any levels in the software, maybe the built in line input was selected instead of the mic input. I don't really know Logic anymore, but maybe you could choose this from the preferences?
