Help Me! Audio noise on short film.

hello, I am a TV commercials director based in london. I have made a short film on HDCAM and the sync sound is pretty awful. Haven't had much help from london sound companies- so I have come here!

I would really appreciate anyones help, for a credit on the short. Sorry no cash available!

That should help you understand a little about what is going on.
Hang in there, I am sure someone around here has the time to help.

That link has some bad information about recording level.

I watched then listened to your short

A bit spooky....

as for the sound, I hear a lot of digital artifacts in the track, like someone tried to add compression or a digital gate effect or a noise filter adding silence between the moments of dialogue, this gave the track an unnatural sound, like it kept cutting out.

I personally think it sounds better if the "add silence" is not used. (this it what it sounds like to me.

I think that the best way to fix the issue is to go back to the original sound track if you saved it.

otherwise, you may need to redo the dialogue in a studio.
record at a high bit depth like 96k 24bit to help give the recording more head room and a lower noise floor.

hope this helps.

I think it relates to filming and recording in the same unit dave, video guys lower on the food chain do not usually invest in the best audio stuff. Just an opinion of course.
I kinda agree with what they are saying as it live dialog and unedited movement and sounds. I doubt they want to go as far as Foley stuff, I could be way off base though, as it is known to happen.

Ancient Chinese Secret

Seriously, it would be a long post - read my blog http://dcwave.blogspot.com/

In a nutshell - multi-band expansion, a surgical EQ with tons of automation, noise-reduction.

You are not trying to rid yourself of the noise, you are trying to keep the listener from noticing changes in noise level, while reducing the noise.
