Book recommendation

I'm a little over halfway through Mitch Gallagher's book, Acoustic Design for the Home Studio. It's excellent. I've done a lot of reading on the topic of acoustics in the past, namely college textbooks and Sound Studio Construction on a Budget by F. Alton Everest, and Mitch's book is by far the most readable and most practical I've seen.

For those of you who haven't heard of Mitch or read anything he's done in the past, he's one of my co-workers here at Sweetwater. He's our editorial director, which basically means he's responsible for all of the articles and reviews that appear on our website and in print. He's also a Grammy-award winning composer and freelance author, recently completing his 1,000th published article. This is his fourth book.

Unlike every other acoustics book I've seen, Mitch's book focuses exclusively on home and project studios, and understands the compromises in space and budget that necessarily come with a home studio. It also covers both DIY (do-it-yourself) acoustic treatment, and commercially available products like those from Auralex, RPG, and Primacoustic.

I strongly recommend this book for anybody who is considering building a bedroom or basement studio. Essential reading.

You can find it lots of places, but of course I recommend you buy it here.

Thanks for the heads up Jeff!

I bought the book (arrived the next day...with candy ), and it is great.

Lot's of useful and practical info, presented layman's terms, with just enough math to help one understand the concepts.

also, dont forget Mastering Audio by Bob Katz

this is an awesome book for the person with a good understanding of audio production.
I covers all of the basics form equipment, to terms, to signal levels in both the digital and analogue realm..
I recommend this book if anyone is looking to expand their knowledge in the audio recording field.

Well, yes she was.

P.S. For anybody wondering... when you make a purchase through Sweetwater, they include various candies with your shipment. How's that for cool!
