Suggest 2.1 speakers for High quality sound

I have out grown my PC's 2.1 Logitech Z2200 amplified speakers. I use my PC as a home "stero system" to listen music via mp3's and the computer has a Chaintech AV7.10 sound card with a "envy chip" which I beleive is capable of much better sound. I think the Logictech speakers are holding the sound card back somewhat. In any event, I have to get new amplified spearkers as I gave the Z2200's to my son so that now I can listen to "his" music on any floor in my house if I want to or not.

So my question is.........does anyone have any experience with 2.1 amplified spearker for a PC that are a little better than the Logitech's I had ?
I have been considering some Altec Lansing FX6021 speakers because of this write up
http://www.behardware.com/articles/4...r-systems.html

Any suggestions would be welcome but if anyone has owned any of these speakers I would really like to hear from you.

If you have the cash check these out.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search

I've used their larger studio monitors in higher end applications and they are absolutely gorgeous!! If you are trying to keep it a little more reasonable, the Klipsh 2.1 ProMedia set is nice too.

These are my favorites for computer desktop speakers that I have worked with.

Klipsch ProMedia

I was considering the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers but I read the on off switch is on the back of the sub woofer and I don't think I would like crawling under my desk to turn them on and off. I am willing to spend up to around $400 if I was sure they would be an improvment over the Z2200's I had. Perhaps someone will be able to help. Thankyou for your reply.

Have you thought about getting a passive system?

they sound better than the computer speakers.

you get yourself a nice amp like the ART SLA-2

and some monitors liike the ANF10 by ADAM

you will be happier.

well, the amp lists for 199.00 new at sweetwater

and i just suggested the speakers because they use a ribbon tweeter (i really like ribbon tweeters, i have a pair of optimus pro-lx511 with ribbons and they really are very detailed. detailed in a spooky way)

but those drivers (the adam listed above) list for 375.00 at sweetwater.
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ANF10/

so the setup above would cost around 575 bucks.

if you want to spend less, you can pick up monitors with dome tweeters for less.
a couple of event 20/20 will run 300.00

and a pair of Alesis MkII only run 199.00
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Monitor1mkII/

the Samson resolve monitors are nice and sell for 199.99
there is a demo pair on sale right now for 150.00

also, with this set up, there are advantages, if you get bored with your monitors or amp you can always change the componet. And because of the dedicated amplifier, you can get away without using a sub, but if you want one, you can always add one to the system.

speakers

Unless you want earsplitting volumes try the Tannoy 5a's.
N.B. If you use any active speakers you will find a outboard volume/kill box very useful. You can make one very easily or check out www.smaudio.com
Rock on
Dave.

I'm not really in the frame of mind to "build a system". Just looking to open the box, plug it in, and enjoy. The Z2200 speakers I had were pretty good, but I would think that for a hundred or two dollars more there would be something that sounds a little nicer. I really can't find anything. The articles I read seem to say that the Promedia 2.1 and Logitech 2300's are the top of the line which I find a little hard to beleive. Does anyone have the ALtec Lansing FX6021 ? I would like to hear what you think.

Well then look at the Tannoys. All you need are two XLR or RTS leads to whatever (bal or un) they have front panel volume control so it really is plug and play (can we sue about that by the way?).
Around £230.00 UK.
Dave.

Klipsch make amazing systems. The ProMedia 2.1 looks like a great choice. Since you use your machine as a stereo system rather than a production set-up, getting computers speakers from the likes of Klipsch is probably a good choice.

If you end up going for studio monitors, it can get tricky; you're going to get brilliant sound (in a lot of cases), but you won't feel good during extended listening sessions due to their decidedly flat output. If you want to really enjoy the sound over long periods, keep it simple and get a mid-priced hi-fi offering from Klipsch or another manufacturer.

Edit: wow, this is an old thread. I didn't take notice.

Why don't you try some DIY speakers and save some money? You can build some excellent speakers from kits at Parts Express. Then use and amp from Sweetwater to drive them.
