Fostex: VF08 vs. VR800

What's the diff? and why is the VR800 so cheap - $289 at zzounds?

NOTES:
I'm looking for a portable recorder that can dump the tracks to a desktop computer.

the vr800 is discontinued older unit, but sound on sound gives it a pretty good write up. If you get one let us know how you like it. be warned that all hard drives may not work well with it according to what I've been able to dig up.

The difference is that the VF08 is a DAW and the VR800 is just a recorder. I own the VR800 and I have the VM200 mixer as well. It's nice equipment for beginners (like myself). There are lots of features and options so you can learn how to record without spending tons of money. If you need any help with it drop me an e-mail and I will see if I can help.
