Cable Race (cable trays)
I figured out a great way to build cheap cable races for my studio.
at home depot,, you can pick up 1 1/2 inch dry wall steel studs for 3 bucks each. the "[" shape of then makes a great cable tray the stud actually measures (for the small one, they seem to come in 4 or 5 different sizes) 1 1/2 inch wide by 1 1/2 inch deep. they run 8 feet, just drill a hole for screws every 16 inches on one side and attach to the wall on the studs. there is a 100 - 300 Hz resonance issue with this solution but that can easily be overcome by stuffing acoustic fill around the cables .

They make 2x2 equivalents in steel also, ya know? Watch your fingers on those edges, tho... but perhaps some shrink-wrap or other "licorice" plastic would do the trick there...

got them up, they work better then i would have imagined, as for the cables laying in them, a 16 channel snake, 2 4 conductor 12 gauge speaker wire, 1 twisted cat 6 cable, a POT line, and in the future will house two fiber optic lines for my MIDI in/out extension and one fiber optic for Digital data.
found the schematic for building a MIDI Extender using fiber optic http://www.wb5mrn.com/midi/midixtnd.htm I used that aluminum duct tape to cover the edges and seams.\ almost there !~
