Wire runs
I'm putting in a iso/vox booth. I need to run wire from the control room. In looking at wire, I see I can get snake runs with 8 channels bundled or single channel runs. Which is better to use? Would I possibley get cross talk in the bundle if I went with the 8 channle run?
Thanks dc

if its a small ' public telephone ' kinda iso booth, why would you want an 8 channel snake in there???.. i would simply run a couple of normal studio cables in there and be done with it...

Holds 4 people (about 9 foot by 7 foot). To meet city codes and for re-sale of the house - its a "mutimedia equipment room". I need at least 3 mic runs, 4 headphone returns, coax for video, and RCA for composit video and audio (Red, White and Yello). This will accomidate mics, headphones, and video display (the one you got for me in India). Probably overkill, but I need to keep with code so that in the case of a fire or something, my insurance will pay for damages.
I am willing to take devil's advocate from anyone who wants to punch holes in my idea, or can guide to low cost cable and the best way to run it. I'm looking at Canare quadstar but its expensive so I may get Belkin installtion runs.

just mho too...
I'd go for the cable runs, make your own snake, with decent balanced cables you should't get any cross talk (how long a run are you talking?) Don't know about the video, but coax is good, right? i visited your website, nice, saw where you got an AS83 Artcore, good hollowbodies, I got an AG85 and put some Grovers on it made alot of difference, but I had to install them reverse/upside down works fine and stays in great tune. 4 people in a 9X7 room with video...hummm

ah.... its more like a room i see....
BTW my video camera died sometime back.... LOL.... it did work for 3 years though, that was the good part... it went pop and there was smell of brim stone.... LOL ... so i took the opportunity to disect the thing and it looks pretty simple in construction... LDR kinda capture device, a lens, a chip for the conversion, some filter circuits and the IR LEDs .... that's it... no wonder they dont cost so much... ![]() Cheers... |

3 mic level sends, 4 line level returns 2 line level sends and 1 composit send it seems to me that a snake would be over kill, and will not meet your video needs. i have to ask how long are your runs? if they are over 6 feet you need to balance your audio feeds. i would run 8 (i see why you are looking at the 8 channel snake) balanced shielded cabled (like belden or some other equivilant) (hell, save some money and use any old microphone cables you were thinking about repairing) to your booth to acomodate your line and mic level signal sends and returns, terminate as needed. then i would run a catagory 6 cable terminated to wall RJ-45 jacks for future data capability. you might want to look into running a 5 wire BNC treminated cable to your booth for video (you can always run composit through the green wire) and then you have the booth prewired for HD or VGA video later if you want to upgrade. also, dont forget power, run it from the other end to prevent hum.

also maybe a snake would work well for your audio needs because crosstalk is minimised by twisting the wires in the bundle.
I personally dont think you will have any issues with what ever you do as long as your shielded.\
