Is my sound card dead?

A few days ago, I went to use my pc and the sound wasn't on. I though some of the volume controls may have been down or something may have been muted, but going into Control Panel, then Device Manager (this is Windows XP btw) I found all volume controls up and nothing muted. At this point it still showed my soundcard--E-MU 0404. I uninstalled the drivers, then reinstalled them and still nothing. I turned off the computer then uninstalled the card then turned the computer back on, then rebooted again and and reinstalled the card. The first time I did this, "new hardware added" appeared, but I was still unable to get it to work. I retried it and now Windows isn't even showing the card at all. I've run Everest Home diagnostic software and that shows an Audigy 2 as my sound processor, which I'm nearly 100 percent sure is what the E-MU platform is.

I just got the computer to find the card by changing the Audio settings in CMOS from disabled to auto. However, I'm still getting no sound. And when I go to Control Panel----Sounds and Audio Devices Properties--the volume control is grayed out. Any ideas?

Your sound card may not work if you are using a pirated version of XP OS.

Which kind of answer is that? It can be that you can't install driver (but i newer so something like that).
If it USB version is easy to check on some other computer, if it not try to change PCI slot (for begining).

See i have a new sound card. I use 4.1 speakers but cause of pirated XP OS i was able to get one speaker to work. The same sound card worked fine in the same PC with same 4.1 speakers when i used Original XP OS.

No I don't have a pirated version of Windows. It's not a USB card, so trying a different PCI slot is a great idea. I've actually already ordered a new card which I should have tomorrow, so I'm hoping that was it. We'll see. If not, I'll try another PCI slot. Thanks!
