Anyone seen a good user's guide for CEP 2.0? There's one called Cool Edit Pro 2.0 In Use , by a couple dudes whose names I don't recall. Anyone read it?

Thanks,

Rog.

Audio Editing With Cool Edit Pro by Robert Riley is the one I'm familiar with. Very useful and much easier to use than the manual...if you can find one.

Aah- YOU'RE the guy who knew about that one! I looked over at Barnes & Noble for that and they had this other one, so I "ordered" it. If I don't like it, no pressure to buy. I'll keep looking for Riley's, 'cause easier IS better! Thanks, Lp,

Rog.

You're welcome. Let me know what you think of the one you ordered. There are times when I need more help! And Adobe seems to have a rather loose definition of "support.";)

I always am ready for bad news when music tools become relegated to corporate fodder, and we who use and depend on them are left in the wings to mutter and light another cigarrette... :( One must get used to being on one's own.

Gimme a week...:D !

I sent Adobe a long email last year about their restrictive policies for the online manual for Audition. You have to go to Support and enter your serial number etc to LOOK AT the manual, which you can't download or print! I said, you guys are new to recording, aren't you? You don't have a client sitting there while you try to find the &$^#%^ serial number so you can discover what setting you need for multiple track playback....

...no answer yet. I guess they are weighing their response.:D

As I get more familiar with AA it's less of a problem, but I see posts like yours all the time.

Come to think of it, the one thing I found useful for PhotoShop was NOT Adobe, but a book called the PhotoShop 6 Shop Manual by O'Quinn (New Riders).

Oh well.

It's as if they have something to lose by giving you access to info for the product you've purchased! Won't let you download the manual? Pretty bizarre, Gus... It's not as if they're even protecting their interest at this point, is it?

At least you addressed the issue... Stand up, I say!

I'll let you know when that book hits.

Well, LP,

I went and looked at the book on Cool Edit called Cool Edit Pro 2.0 In Use by Roman and Yuri Peletin. It's got a lot of pages, has plenty of window renderings, seems well-organized, and claims to go into a lot of undocumented uses for the program; which sounds great! My difficulty with it was that it reads like a thesis on digital engineering from a math-science major. Not an easy read for your average lay-musician (read: me).

Instead of getting into "Convolusion" as it relates to modifying signal in musical or readily understood functional terms (like using Convolusion), it offers a mini course on the behavior of algorhythmic (-- I forget what kind, exactly) signals mathematically convulsing all over one another... These guys get way into technical contexts that I'm believing a whole lot of us who just need to know a little more about what amounts to 'signal flow' aren't going to be ready to tackle. So I didn't purchase it.

If you are of a mathematically analytical nature, and already live a considerable part of your intellectual life inside the machine- and that's not billed here as a bad thing- I'll bet you could get a lot out of this handbook. It's actually full of useful info and techniques bound to 'up' the experience- I just can't read the thing without inviting a headache. Call me simple.

Bottom line: Too technical, not lay-friendly.

This concludes my breathy but shallow review of Cool Edit Pro 2.0 In Use by Roman and Yuri Peletin.

Still looking for the Riley version...
