Agree. Reason is really cool.
Factory and Orkester sounds are good.

Anyone bought any of the many Reason or Refills out there? I know there are many so if you have gotten any, let us know which and how you like it.

Also, can you import the rex files directly to Cubase, or as with Factory sounds, only open them thru Dr.Rex module?

Anyway, just wanted to add some life to this area of the forum...

I have not purchased any refills, although I have downloaded a few free ones. I haven't done enough research other than the Prophead site although I am going to go through primesounds.com soon. I have worked with Reason enough to find deficencies in the sound banks so I'm always looking for new and better sounds.

Thanks...

I've seen a lot of stuff out there for Reason, but haven't tried any. There are quite a few of free banks and demos out there. What interest me most is just little loops(rex file) to be used in Dr Rex or directly to Cubase. Specifically acoustic drum loops in a rock /folk /alternative vein... If you find any good, ones let us know.

Man, there's a ton of free Refills for Reason out there. Some are quite large so if you don't have a fast connect then... Most sound pretty cool though. I like having a whole slew of Rex files to pull up. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/biggrin.gif

I have a folder full of 921 free drREX loops. Not all good, but the good ones I use as drum kits and make my own loops. :)

i'"ve got a bunch of refills, real big ones, with neat samples and stuff,
but i HATE using them....

first off all, you can't extract the samples from refills,
so if you loose any of them (after a reformat or so) then you just lost the entire file...

and if you got a 300MB refill, and only need ONE tiny sample from it, then you still have to store that goddamn refill on your harddisc

no, i don't like it, i got my own huge collection of kick ass samples,
and if i find a refill with some Kick Ass samples, then i just rip it

(rip it: play that one sound in reason, and record it live in Cool edit or so....with a lill risc of loosing some soundquality i guess)

conclusion: Seperate samples ROCK,
refill are just TOO BIG...(they don't suck....just not handy to work with i think)

Earworm, its easy to make wav samples from rex files....

...all you've got to do is export a track with a single loop of the rex file you need as a wav from reason...

...if you only want one slice of the rex then reduce all of the other slice volumes to zero....

no problem...

And if you only want to keep some of the rex files from a refill you can export them this way and then re-rex them in recycle and repack them into your own refills with only those you need or like.......

I use the Ambient Textures Refill.... the only one I purchased. I am kind of tired of download a lot of stuff I don't use to find things I do..... witness the large number of soundfonts I have downloaded.... finally bought a few and use mostly them! I do a lot of new age/ambient/electronic conceptual music and I liked this refill.
