Cool...Though I wasn't putting the call out for production gigs....just wondering if anyone else out there was in the audio for games industry...

The other producer I work with just did some stuff for (don't die laughing..), Pokemon. Dunno what's up with it yet - it may get used, it may not. Did some ring tones for Nokia recently, too, and some game sound for Sony for stuff that's in development yet. Hoping to get a high profile gig that he did a demo for - it would be a nice feather in the cap.

I've done some sound for games in the past. The only one that actually was released was Virtual Pool 2, not the most exciting sound project (although a pretty cool game I thought). The other two games were first person shooters and though I didn't do all of the sound for those games, I thought it was interesting and a lot of fun, I'd love to get back into doing some of that. I did recently mix a bunch of songs that will be released on a soundtrack disc along with "True Crime - Streets of L.A."

Now that's cool!

I've recently been getting into doing sound design for Wolfenstein-Enemy Territory maps but I'm having a problem trying to convince the mappers to get good music in there. I've produced some great short peices but due to increased file the audio adds mappers are straying away from it...sux.

Personally, I always turn off the music in games - it seems to detract too much from the game itself. Cut-scenes and opening credits are a good place to put the best music, as everyone will hear it then (the Myth series is a great example of this..). I don't know many people that keep the game music on (a shame, I know, but like I said - it seems to get in the way of the game.).

I find it to be the exact opposite....IF....the music is good and adds to the game like Medal Of Honor.

MOH is a great game, but I still turn off the sound.

Different strokes, I guess.

I like music for games like GTA or Gran Turismo - racing stuff, ya' know - kind of like music on the radio blasting, but for FPS, it just doesn't seem part of the natural 'environment' and can sometimes cover up sounds made by the enemy sneaking up on ya'!

I'm also a "music off" type. Even though I love music and make a living working on it, I do find it distracting as well. GT is my favorite PS game and the only reason I ever bought a PS in the first place. I always kill the music so I can hear the sounds of the engine and tires.

I've recently hooked up with a developer who is in the early stages of a new game (think U.T. I have put some scratch tracks together for the opening credits and will probably be involved with more later on.

Depends on the game, mystery/horror role playing type games work very well music on, but in shooters and games when your up against other players, many times if you hear the other players (ie:location) first. you have the advantage, so the only music I wanna hear is foot steps..........
