BACKGROUND - I am a one man band. Just me, that's it. I want to be able to record my vocals, electric guitar, various software synths (Reason, Rebirth, etc.), and hook up some type of slave keyboard and maybe 1-2 rack module synths to get all sorts of sounds. I just want to make and record quality music for a reasonable price, under $4000 (of which half has already been spent on computer), and not "F" around with troubleshooting and upgrading all the time. (Musical influences are Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, etc.)

ALREADY DECIDED ON - I already have a G4 533, 1 GIG memory, 40 GIG system drive, 60 GIG A/V drive, that I use for Final Cut Pro video editing. I am planning on getting Digital Performer, Shure MICs, and JBL Monitors.

WHAT I REALLY NEED HELP ON – What is the best way to get all my instruments and sounds into my computer/Digital Performer?

I am leaning toward MOTU 828 for audio (vocals, guitars) and MOTU Micro Express serial/parallel (because I heard there can be timing problems with USB
interfaces???) for MIDI.

So, putting together all of the above components, do I need anything else? Do I need some type of Sound Card or anything, or are Sound Cards just an alternate to interfaces like the MOTU 828 and MOTU Micro Express?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you very much.
