wassup? i'm a new kid on the DAW block. after doing my homework and talking to a salesrep about going DAW or stand-alone(VS types) they said DAW because of the expandability and cash savings. cool!, i thought. so, i bought the da** thing, with the system requirements beyond par. that's plenty efficient, right?
I plugged in my instruments to inputs 1-2 and 3-4 for starters. now, i can only record one pair of stereo inputs at a time. what's up with that?
i've tried Bank A-C:Analog, enabled inputs
1-2, 3-4. output sources? tried'em all! what happens is i only get to hear the analog output source that enable input 1-2 is assigned to, except for "from computer".
my guess is it's the recording software or a conflict with the soudblaster live mp3+.
any ideas?
thanx in advance.

Im not exactly clear on your question, I used vegas pro (ver1) with my 2408 for a while with no problems, if you can explain a little more, I can more than likely help you out. Do you want two stereo tracks, or 4 mono tracks? And did you assign the 3408's inputs IN VEGAS? At any rate, here was the scenerio that I used for recording 4+ simultanious inputs;
After the computer is started, open the 324 console.
Choose bank A as analogue (you can only use 8 analogue ins at a time unless you have multiple MOTU 2408 rack units).
Buffer @ 1024 (or whatever, these were my settings)
Sample @ 44100
clock @ PCI 324 internal
exit the console
open Vegas
Ctrl Q will add one track (add however many you need)
enable the tracks by pressing the arm record button
you should then see a number appear beside the arm record button, this number is your input number. so for track 1, it should have a 1 beside it. Input one in Vegas is actually 1 and 2 on the motu, by default, Vegas goes into stereo recording. To change it to mono, right click the number that appears next to the arm record button (remember, the track must be armed to see this number), once you right click it, select which input you want to use and for mono on track one you would select 1 as your input, then right click that same number, at the bottom of the drop down menu, click on left. For track 2 do the same again, but click on right this time. This distinguishes mono/stereo recording in Vegas.
You probably know most if not all of this. So if I misunderstood your question, elaborate on it and Ill try to help.

BTW, the obvious best way to monitor all of this is through external monitoring, you do have an external mixer right? This is my opinion, however, if you are experiencing latency this is your answer. Again, my scenerio;
I have a P3 550, 7200 rpm 41 gb IBM drive and I use Steinberg Nuendo (Vegas in the past) with the MOTU 2408 w/PCI 324 card.
I have a Mackie 24-8 board. All my instruments plug in here, via the 8 busses, I send them to my 2408 analogue ins.
In my 324 console, I enable which inputs Im using and assign Analog 1 and 2 outputs as "from computer". This will send the signal back to your main outputs and headphone jack on the 2408 (after you enable this in Vegas of course). I take my main outputs of my 2408, plug them in to two new channels of my board, and listen back through my monitors that way. So, lets say I recorded drums on 8 tracks the way I explaned in the previous post, now I want to overdub my bass guitar. I would have the playbck set as explained above, my bass input in my Mackie routed through the bus to the 2408, but I would inable the monitoring of the bass along with the pre recorded tracks right from my Mackie. Otherwise, if you monitor everything through the 324, you would be double buffering your bass signal, thus causing a very irratating latency. I hope this helps you out.

Another useful tip... If your not using the onboard sound card, disable it in the system bios. For some, it causes problems, for others it doesn't.

yo dig! it's been successful. the problem wasn't in "console". i neglected to assign my channels in cuemix. duh!
i'm not using an external mixer yet.(i'm scheming on a dmxr100 for a full 24 chn whao!!!!) i only have an 2000XL, Karma, and a c3000b. the "main outs" go directly into an amp with Tannoys on it. (i'll be getting Events soon)
the only problem i have now is Micosoft Windows. all of my drivers haven't been installed, therefore Vega somehow isn't recognizing the PCI-324, and i don't know how to assign it it's own IRQ. i didn't see the "number" appear next to arm record neither.
i just want to make music, man!!!!!!!!!
i'm seriously considering getting a power mac g4 now. i fig. w/the 2408, PCI-324 and audiodesk, i'll be pretty set.
holla back!

G4 is nice, but I think if you setup your pc right, a little time and effort required, your pc will be as efficent. The very most important thing with the pci 324, is that you install the software first, then the card itself after!!!!! Otherwise, chances are that windows will not recognize the card correctly. Ive had serious IRQ problems when I installed the hardware before the software. It's a pain in the ass, but you will find it's easier in the long run. Also, it would be wise to go into the device manager and disable everything you will not be using on your pc. This will insure minimal conflicts in your sys. Let me know.
Dig
BTW, I think the reason you don't see the little number pop up is because, and maybe I'm wrong but it seems you installed the hardware first (?), and Vegas is not recognizing the card correctly.

Also, have you "optimized" you pc yet? Ya know, made all your changed in the sysedit yet? If not, there are a couple of posts under the PC section of the forum, if you have trouble finding them, let me know and I'll point you to the right direction.
