Hi,

I am planning to upgrade my chip from a P3 750 to a P3 933 or 1 gig. I have heard rumours about incompatability issues with the 2408 and very fast chips. Can anyone confirm this?

Intel chip prices have dropped enough to make a 1 gig chip very tempting.

My system is an ASUS CUSL2C with 256 mb ram, Matrox G400 graphics, scsi card for cd rom and writer, Midex 8 midi interface, Win 98 SE with Win 98 Lite (to remove IE) running Cubase 5, Nuendo 1.5 and Wavelab 3.

Is anybody succesfully running a 2408 at these high speeds?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Andrew

Andrew, you should look within this same forum under the topic "Motu's using PIII's and Window ME". There you'll find lots of discussion on this topic. Bottom line, the PCI-324 does have problems with fast chip sets. On my box it either locks the system up or reboots.

Khamlin,

I read the other posts, but I thought the problem was a Win ME one.

I installed the 1 gig chip today. No problems so far but I only noticed about 10 - 15% performance difference - using a real world test of using plug ins to max out the system. It's a bit disapointing to say the least.

I still have pc 100 ram so when I upgrade that to pc 133, the jump to 133 mhz FSB should make a difference too. I will keep you posted.

Andrew
