Cubase Vst sync problems

When trying to record 24 channels of audio from 3 adats vst drops out of recording at random points when using pci394 adat sync in asio control panel. If I set recording going manually my system can record all 24 with hardly any stress on system (PIII 650 256Mb Ram and Ibm 7200rpm ata66 Drive)so it can't be a system speed problem.The buffers and memory per channels are set quite high to do this and I have tried all sorts of settings. The problem seems to be the sample accurate sync with the adats

I've never had any problems getting ADATs to sync with my 2408mkII, are you using asio2?,
sync from pci card connected to last adat?
In SYNCRONIZATION window, are you set to 30 fpi?
