Hi, I just got a 2408 unit and reading the manual noticed the analog inputs convert at 64x oversampling. 128x seems to be a given these days so, why did they do that? are there converters good enough not to need 128x or where they cutting corners? Please help me figure out if this card is good for analog recording. thanks in advance...

With the 2408, I assume you mean digital recording, not analogue. Sorry, I use a 2408, but I have not really utilized the analogue inputs much, since I primarily use the inputs on my Yamaha 01V mixer. Strangely enough, the AD converters on the analog inputs of the 01V are 128x oversampling, while those on the higher end Yamaha's (the 02R and 03D) are only 64x. . . maybe it's because the 01V is the newest board.
Anyway, good sounding records have been made on the 02R and 03D, so I know their converters are very good, even if they are "only" 64x.
I can't really say that I know if the difference between 64x and 128x is significant or not. I will say that I think the 2408 is an excellent unit (LOTS of flexibility), and although you will get people around this forum to say they've had problems (lockups etc.), I and others here have had only good experiences.

Thanks for the input bobmc! Yeah, I bought it and it seems like a great unit for anyone with digital outboard gear. My analog recording were ok. About 5% better sounding than with a sound blaster live. That wont cut it http://www.audioforums.com/forums/wink.gif Well, maybe I'm colored by the 64x stuff but it does seem that the analog isn't their may interest when building this card. My main needs are analog so, I called the music store and got them to order me the motu 1224. It's more expensive by 200 bucks, though it is geared for A/D conversion. and if I ever get digital gear i'd be able to buy a 2408 as expansion. Great chatting with all you recording musicians!!!
