hi all

anyone has having delay problems using the MOTU2408 multimedia audio driver? lately I've been recording several audio projects outside VST (my main audio/MIDI software), using the MOTU2408 multimedia audio driver, instead of the Steinberg ASIO one (never had any problems with this)...
I've had the chance to try Acid and Vegas only, but the MOTU records with a noticeable delay the new tracks (I've tried recording the audio click itself, not just my own playing...)
the delay is bigger if I set bigger values in the Buffer Size field of the PCI-324 COnsole... at minimum settings it's almost unnoticeable, but still there (if you zoom on the waveform it's evident...)
I'ver tried using the Cue Mix Console too, but things are not better...
I know what latency is and the role Buffer Size has on this value, but shouldn't latency influence monitoring only? why does the latency delay influence the timing offset of my recorded tracks?
using ASIO drivers I have perfect timing, and my old "half duplex" Awe 64 Gold records with no timing delays in Acid... so the problem has to be with the MOTU multimedia driver, right? anyone can help me?

thanks
ciao

Leo,
The problem is with the MOTU system. You do need to set the buffers in the console lower than the default setting of 1024. I am having so much problems with MOTU that the hardware is going back tomorrow. I am having more than latency issues with the hardware. Wish I could be more help.

Hi Leo.

I agree that the delay problem is with the 2408. For myself, I discovered that the problem was even bigger with Vegas Pro and I beleive the reason is because of the way Vegas writes info on the hard drive.

I found out that the best way to solve my problem is to be patient and split my recording work and use Cubase VST. What I mean by being patient is that I will limit my audio recordings to 8 audio tracks each time I record a project and use MTC sync recordings. Why do I prefer Cubase? Just because Cubase writes info on the hard disk in much smaller "chunks of audio waves" than Vegas. That way, I got rid of my delay problem between audio tracks.

Bye.
