View Full Version : New Dual Tyan Opteron board!
The new dual Tyan Thunder looks like a DAW killer. Finally a new Dual AMD(Opteron) chipset and board.Supports 2 Opterons,Eight DDR dimm sockets(yikes!),6 PCI-X slots, and one older legacy Pci slot and one Agp,built in 4 SATA ports, and 2 firewire ports and 5 USB.I guess the Opterons are starting at 333FSB because that's the limit.Anyway, here's a spec link www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8w_spec.html (http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8w_spec.html) Oh,there's also an Asus single chip NForce 3 board shipping as well, but I don't have much info yet.
Lowest price on pricewatch - $506.70 (yes that's just the motherboard)
Ouch!
I think a little waiting is in order...

I think a little waiting is in order...Agreed.But the good news is there is an up to date AMD dual chipset finally.
Well, they've dropped down the $306.00 on Pricewatch and counting, and the Opterons have just dropped below XP's.Also NForce is finishing up a new dual as well. While I'd still wait a little longer, anyone considering investing in a dual AMD should definitely consider investing in a 400FSB dual, rather than spending nearly the same amount on old news.Since we'll be running audio apps in 32 bit on a 32 bit OS,a 400FSB dual seems the only real jump in power from single solution XP/Bartons at the moment, and for some time to come.
