Greetings fellow musicians,
I just ran into a problem (not gifted to play a guitar... keys r my specialty) where
I need to record acoustic guitar and don't know how to play http://www.audioforums.com/forums/frown.gif
Then I started to look for some software to do this, and to my delight, I ran across
this vst Virtual Guitarist. I can play the guitar solo leads, just struggle at rhythms, and again to my delight, VG is the rhythm specialist. So before I can order this software (as always, after u open it, just can't take it back), I was wondering if anyone in here has used it and could give me some insight...
Thank you,
AF

Hi Andre
I have played with this software at a friends place for maybe an hour or so and on balance I am fairly impressed with it and I suspect it willpretty much do the job you require of it. You cant program your own rhythmic strum patterns as far as I can tell but there are a sackload to choose from. The only disadvantages I noticed were that it caused the startup time of my friends copy of VST to jump from about 4 seconds to about 24 seconds - no great loss here but annoying. Also I noticed once in a while it didnt pick up chord changes in the way I would expect it to , but if you are recording MIDI parts then I guess you can hone these until they are perfect. Finally the other comment I will make about the software is that you have to be happy with the source sound of the guitar in question, as there is little tweaking that can be done to this. In the case of the acoustic, I remember it being a rather bright steel string that seems to be recorded and EQ'd to fit into dense pop mixes rather than to stand up to solo scrutiny. If this fits your bill then fine, I am sure you will be happy. Just dont expect it to churn out a nylon stringed Flamenco solo http://www.audioforums.com/forums/wink.gif

Thank you Michael,
At this point I just might have to bite the nail and go for it... this is temporary fill until I get the real thing going (putting money away for the guitar and guitar lessons). I love the real nylon guitars, it just makes me this more eager to learn how to play the real guitar. Not sure how it's for you Michael, but money usually dictates my life stile, what I can and what I can't (never enough of it)... so I've learned to be patient and content at the moment, sometimes very hard to swallow.
Thanks again,
AF
