Hi Guys!
Somebody help me please!
I built a DAW with:
Asus A7N8X-Deluxe latest BIOS 1004
AMD XP2800 Barton
3x 512 DDR400 RAM Sticks (1,5GB)
HD Maxtor 80GB
2x Serial ATA Seagate 120GB (240GB)in Striped Raid
GE ForceFX 5200 Video Card
The Audio card is PCI324+Motu 2408 MkII Latest Drivers
OS WINDOWS XP SP1

After a clean install of WinXP I followed all the tweaks from the site www.musicxp.net!Everything (http://www.musicxp.net!Everything) seems to be OK in System/Hardware Profiles but when I have tried to install Cubase SX , the first test to ceck the sync (Buffers)fails!!!The sync lost during the test is like a slot-machine!!I've tried to import an audio loop from Cubase and the sounds is distort with a impossible noise floor and clicks and crackle all over!!!I've also tried with Logic with the same results!!
I have re-installed WindowsXP few times!
I've installed Win2000+SP3 with the F5 option! I have tried to disable everything from BIOS (USB,Parallel Port,Firewire,SATA)!!!!I have switched the 324PCI card on all 5 PCI slots!!
Results= Tons of Sync lost on Cubase test
Impossible noise floor with spikes all over!!
I'm really frustrated!
I appreciate any suggestions!
ThanX

you have entered the Motu-PC Bermuda Triangle.

People will swear up and down that Motu equipment works great on PC's. Yet the continuing narrative of problems continues.

Moving to a PCI-424 card may help you. It's supposed to be more compatible with PC's than a PCI-324. But no guarantees.

I sold ALL my motu equipment when I migrated over from Apple. Why? It didn't work.

Sorry to hear of your problems. The only thing I can say is you fought the good fight, you're not crazy, and you're not alone in your problems.

But.......It will be another nightmare?
Thanx!!

I have the 2408 MKIII with SX and it working awesome for real. Why are you using ASIO Multimedia, when motu gear has full ASIO drivers? Just forget about the test, hit cancel and then go to Devices/VST Multitrack and change the ASIO multimedia driver for ASIO MOTU 424 or whatever the real ASIO driver name you have in there.
The ASIO multimedia and its sync test, or whatever, was created by steinberg to make soundcards that don't have dedicated ASIO drivers to work with VST. You don't need that, not even worry about the tests.

I'm not using multimedia ASIO!
I have the same trouble (noise+crackle)without any Cubase or Logic sequencer or editor running!
Also when I click with the left mouse button on desktop I can hear annoying crackles!
It is a compatibility issue I think!
What about your PC hardware?
ThanX!!

Motu products do work fine on PC's if you build the right one and set it up right.

Dude your in a world of hurt if your trying to use a AMD chipset or AMD anything for the PCI-324 card.

And raid on top of that no wonder your getting buffer errors.

Let me guess the only way you can use those serial ATA posts on that model is to run it in raid mode?

Thats why this board sucks for S-ATA

I would never do an AMD system with Motu anything but try this.

Lose the A7V8X for that setup and never look back.

Get a A7N266-D MB and try it. You will be able to use the serial ATA in a non raid setup.

You do not want to run raid on this setup. Just load the OS and let it find the drives then partition them ect ect.

Then build it up like you did before and I repeat "Do not load the raid drivers from the Asus disc."

Is the Motu on when you try to run the buffer test? Be sure it is and it is not in stand alone mode. (Consult Motu for details on this)

If the breakout is not on your wil get buffer test errors and it will never pass ever.

If you cant get it to work with the Nforce2 chipset give up and go Intel you will have next to no problems if you do it right.

I'm using an ECS mobo with SIS 746 chipset, 1 gig of DDR 2700, AMD 2500+ XP barton cpu, a UAD card. The system works rock solid, made me go ahead and add a motu micro express USB midi interface that works awesome too.

Incidentally, I had to reinstall my Music OS today (MSBlast is the chief suspect) and entered the Bermuda Triangle myself. I'm running a MOTU828 and have never had an issue with it on XP Pro before, but for some reason today things took a turn for the worse, and now I can't get XP to recognise the interface at all, in fact it is starting to hang the system. I spent an hour on a cellphone with the guy from the only tech support number MOTU provide (he was in Cambridge MA, I'm in London UK - I'm not looking forward to tTHAT bill!!), and he was completely stumped. I'm going to format everything and resintall the OS *AGAIN* and see if that does the trick.

Fingers x'd

There is also an outside chance that the conflict may actually be the vid card. Vid card conflicts with soundcards are almost as notorious as mobo conflicts. I know there's a tech note (with a fix) on MOTU's website about the Matrox Millennium Vid cards conflicting with the PCI-324. Vid cards can sometimes hog to much of the PCI buss bandwidth & may need to have their control panel settings tweaked (as in the case of the Matrox, which needs it's buss mastering turned off to work with the PCI-324) or they can sometimes hog upper memory needed by the soundcard.

You may want to investigate that avenue. Maybe even try a different Vid Card if you have access to one.
