Hello, all. Does anyone have any idea on how to design and build your own computer desk. i can't seem to find any websites on this subject. can anyone give me any information on how to do it and how much it will cost?

thanks,

Hi Xeno - Do you have access to good woodworking tools. If not, buying them in addition to the cost of the wood will quickly eat up any savings you gain by building. You might want to check out Ikea for computer furniture. You sort of build it yourself, but all the cutting and drilling is already done, and it's real wood, not particle board. They have one over in Emoryville, up the east side of the bay by Berkley.
Otherwise, go look at some computer desks, take notes, and then designe your own custom one using Delta Cad or some other inexpensive CAD program. I designed and built my own, but it's a big project, and not cheap.

hey Xenosonik if you go to ikea you can find a pretty good desk for about $170 bucks. it's called the jerker (yeah, don't even get me started on that one!!) and it's a pretty simple design, but it's pretty effective. it consists of a table top and a top shelf like plank of wood, but it also has add ons like a tray for a computer and a swivel mounted tray for a computer monitor of which i bouth two and attached them on either side of the desks to use as my speaker/monitor stands. i have some M-audio sp5b's and they're not that big but they don't take up even half the space on the trays. it's well built and it's easy to assemble. you should give it a look if you haven't already bouth a desk. remeber it's called a jerker. check it out in their catalog.

saul has it right with the jerker! we all use them here - it's very well made and is perfect for the 'project studio' setup. there's a place to put your monitors, keyboard, mixer and a bunch of other peripherals (right now on mine i have a my monitors, crt, mixer, virus, niche automation station, keyboard, printer, scanner, subwoofer and a bunch of stuff like cd's, notebooks, etc.). it's easily expandable, too.

far better than any higher priced 'studio furniture' i've ever seen...

I got one of these Leda desks:
http://shopbrandsmall.com/0042-dl082.html?AID=5340724&PID=177778&SID=103465322865957125

and mounted a shelf on the left so I could get a set of speakers up there. The monitor sits low and at an angle . . . keeps away the neck strain. My keyboard sits on the desk in front of me and I put a rack on top for other gear.

cool, man i thought i was the only one that was using the desk. the best thing about it is that you can adjust most of the accesories like the monitor/speaker/ shelves. and it has a lot of space undeneath to place some racks on caster or whatever.
