Hi,
Do any of you know how Cher gets that crazy effect on her vocals on the song "Believe?" Or how Roger Troutman, and Zapp get that effect on songs like "More Bounce 2 the Ounce", "Dance Floor", and "I Can Make You Dance"????
I don't care what it costs!!
Thanks,
TSD

I know how she did it. In the July issue of Computer Music Magazine they said that she uses the Digitech Talker. I do not know how much that costs, but you can get a similar effect by using a tuner such as Antares Auto-Tune. Just "overtune" it I guess. I'm not an expert, I'm just quoting what I read. Hope this helps!

Don't do it.
I repeat, don't do it.
Please, don't do it.
You do not want to do it.
Trust me.
Please.

I know from a TV interview with the producer that the effect on Believe by Cher was done using Antares Auto-Tune plugin. Which is also very clear if you have the plugin.
The first commercially released song to use the Antares Auto-Tune was "This Is How We Party" in 1997 produced by yours truly.

For your information, Zapp & Roger are the same person. It's just one guy. Just thought you should know. Thanks. Oh yeah, and never get a Digitech Talker. If you are looking for a talk box, get a real one with a vocal tube. I had the Talker, and it was kinda cool, but it's not like having an original. All that you do is hook a mic up to it, and a keyboard or something. Doesn't do anything for the art of talk boxing. 1
