I am new to compression settings and would appreciate if some of the elders out there would share thier settings for drums. For instance, what do you use for a starting point with the kick, snare, toms? The music is mostly hard stuff. Thanks in advance!

JF- Thank you for that awesome link. Lots of good reads there. BIG help.
Cooldrums- Multitrack software is Vegas Video. Compression plugs include Waves renessance and Sonic foundry track compressor. Mastering compression plugs a whole different story. I am interested in ratios, attack, and release for drum tones. Shouldn't all compressors contain this basic controls?

Yeh, I know that was a somewhat dumb question, but i was seeing if i could help you from a CEP point of view. Anyway your on the right track, by researching first. Try this great link someone else left before. http://www.studiocovers.com
I have had success lately gating out below roughly -60 db or so, and using just light compression 2:1 while tracking just to keep the drums from clipping going in. No EQ until mix time either. After tracking might to moderate ratio's 2:1 or close to 3:1 with fast attacks and med releases. Say 5-10 ms attack and anywhere from 50-100ms release, on a snare and kick.
Frequency dependant compression is very helpful as well. Good luck!

No problem. Just posting a link someone else posted earlier. Some of the articles were really helpful with pics and such. Especially the Humbucker link about acoustic guitar micing. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/cool.gif
