I'm mixing the guitar riff tracks in this song and I've layered two stereo tracks that I've split into 4 mono tracks to pan them at aprox 8 o'clock and 10 o'clock for the one take and 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock for the other take. These tracks (when they are playing) are the main focus of the song (no vocals, just instrumental). Should I layer another track and have it panned dead center or would that be overkill? I'm trying to get a thick sound, yet have it focused as well.

I've read through that before and that's where I got the idea for the way the tracks are panned now. The difference is that this is an instrumental song with the guitar riffs up front for part of the song. That's why I'm wonderin about another track layered and panned dead center.

The post I have titled "Advice On My Mix" has a link with a very rough mix of the song. I ended up using 6 mono tracks for the guitar riffs in it, and I like the way it sounds. I'd love to get some critiques on the rough mix, mostly pointers on EQ. It's a lonely little post with no replies as of right now http://www.audioforums.com/forums/frown.gif
