Can anyone tell me how to get that stuttering effect that you hear on vocals etc. I vaguely remember that you use a gate but can`t quite recall exactly. Is there a way using VST plugins or any other software?

Try using AutoTune heavily! http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif

You could use a tremelo plug in, but it's really not as good as using some sort of gate.
I haven't come across a plug-in that does it yet - still hoping someone will create one...
To do it properly you need an lfo that syncs to tempo, then assign the lfo to volume. Most decent samplers can do it, no problem. There may be a softsampler that can do it...?

ummm something about side chaining a sampled loops(from sampler or computer or even tape) to a limitor to controle your limitors levels to affect whatever your processing... hmm for some reason I can draw this or show you how better then describing it.....perhaps someone better at writen expression can clear what I'm saying up...

DJ Taos, you might mean controlling a gate rather than limiter.
Basically if you take a signal and gate it and feed the key input of the gate some fast transients, this makes the gate stutter. Watch attack and release, you can get chattering distortion when the gate is trying to both open and close at the same time.
Or, if you're a Pro Tools user, automate your volume with a square wave pencil tool. The grid value controls the frequency of the waveform.
Any clearer?

Oh, bombastique, I think Logic's EXS24 has a LFO that can be controlled by the tempo. Have to check it out.

Ehm for that sorta thing I just use the built in Gapper/Snipper plugin from sonic foundry's sound forge, which does that.

For stuttering effects, perhaps try some of these:
* DFX Skidder (or any of the other DFX plugs too for really chewing up the sound): http://www.smartelectronix.com/~destroyfx/
* Tobybear AlliGater (look in "ModBag Basic" under "Files"):
http://www.tobybear.de
* HybridAlien MIDIGate (freeware), Filtergate:
http://www.hybridalien.com/
* AnalogX Audio Arpeggiator (DX):

* Steinberg Chopper
* Vellocet ReOrder:

You guys are on the right track, but not there 100%... the way its really done on albums such as Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park, is by using Pro Tools in Grid Mode. They put the program in grid mode then cut at every other eigth note. After that they delete some parts that they cut and repeat (or stutter) earlier parts over and over again. This not only makes it stutter but also "slur" the phrase. Check out DigiDesign's website for an interview with them about that.

Methinks that this is another instance of someone asking a question and disappearing. Especially based on the lack of further interaction on the part of the questioner. However, (s)he could also mean the "stuttering" effect that results from over-time/pitch shifting something. Similar to that "Funk Soul Brother" Fatboy Slim track.
I don't know if this is at all the type of stutter you're going for (you may be thinking of something more subtle), but feel free to check out a track of mine:

For the choppy/stuttering vocals in that, I just used the cyclone sampler in sonar2 xl. You could do the same thing in reason.
