Recording a guitar or a similar live instrument

Can anyone,who has experineces recording live guitar into pc, tell me how i would recird a live guitar into a pc??

I would like to record some loops into a pcd but don't know how. I have a audio card terratec with analog inputs and outputs and S/PDIF input/output...Can i record with this live guitar sample into PC, so that i would then use this sample in Cubase or Logic?

Stick a mic in front of the guitar and record. Move it around to see if it sounds better in a different place in front of the guitar.

The mic should go through some sort of mixer or preamp before going to your card, so that you can get it's signal up to line level.
