is sound forge suitable for recording demos, arranging etc. cuting up sound, pasting sections?

Not really - it's best used as a tool for editing single audio files. Certainly you can cut these up and mess about with them on Soundforge, but when it comes to adding extra parts you're stuck. Also, there's no kind of MIDI manipulation available, so again, you'd be quite stuck.
If you're looking at recording demos for multiple instruments, you're probably best looking at sequencers like Cubase, Sonar, Logic, etc.

Oh, I should add that Soundforge is fantastic for sorting out finished demos (eg compressing, EQing, etc) before you get them mastered. In my mind, it's worth considering getting, but only as an extra to a sequencer.

Lets not forget Sound Forges Vegas Audio. It would be a very good choice to record or edit multi track recordings. I have used Vegas for a few years and have had very good results.

I wouldn't look too hard for Vegas Audio - if I'm not mistaken, it got dropped because Vegas Video had the same audio capabilities but more video. Also, since Sony bought them, there may be other changes afoot... Steve
