Lots of pops introduced with normalization

I recorded a track with the dynamic levels way too high, and the result looked like the track was over-compressed (although I didn't actually use an over-compression technique). When I tried to correct this by Normalizing the track, though, the track ended up full of pops and clicks.

I don't usually get pops and clicks (for example, Mix works fine). Any ideas why this might have happened?

It sounds like a glitch. Try a volume boost and see if it does the same thing.
