View Full Version : Vegas, anyone?
I just upgraded to Vegas Video 3 (now that 4 is about to come out), and I've been noticing that SF seems to be pointing Vegas much more at the video market than audio - both in where they seem to be putting their development efforts, and also with much higher visibility in video rags (eg DV) than music & sound (Recording, Electronic Musician). I'll probably stick with Vegas myself, despite some of the audio shortcomings, because I'm getting into more sound design and some video production and I like being able to do video and audio in one interface. Kind of like N-Track and Adobe Premiere all in one program. But I'm curious as to whether any other musicians or engineers are using Vegas, or thinking about it now that V4 is finally adding ASIO and DXi capability? Why or why not?

I use Vegas Video 3.0 and I love it. I've been with Vegas since Vegas Pro first came out. I hope to be able to upgrade to Vegas 4 when it comes out. I think they are just taking the video and the audio portions and integrating them. That's been the expanation for dropping the audio and video from the title and just calling it Vegas. I know there are other people using it, but they don't seem to be on this forum. Check out the forums on the actual SF site.

Hoping to get Vegas+DV (V4) this week. Played around with the demo and it is a must have... The surround sound features make you want to give up stereo.

There's no more integration of video/audio in V4 than in V3 in my experience. Both audio and video is handled very well from the start and they both get a substantial boost in V4. I think they're mainly dropping the video monicker to not alienate future audio users (and it's been beaten to death on the Vegas audio forum).
Vegas is absolutely my favourite audio multi tracker/mixer.

We definitely haven't dropped any audio features from the Vegas engine, just enhanced them. 5.1 surround mixing (and AC3 encoding if you have the Surround plugin pack or DVD Architect 1.0 installed on the same machine as Vegas), ASIO driver support, etc. We took the names "video" and "audio" out of the monicker because it just caused way too much confusion.
