Spdif and the Digi001!~

Can anyone please Help? I have a Mackie d8b, I run spdif out into a Digi 001. If I'm
running PT LE everything sounds fine. If I use WAVELAB, or Samplitude to record IN
digitally... It's RICE KRISPIES all over the place. I have verified that all sample rates,
clocks etc. are set correctly. Has anyone figured out how to RECORD spdif with any
other software but Pro Tools?

wouldn't it be interesting to find out that digidesign created this 'feature' so that you're forced to use their software?
