How is the soft sampler EXS24? Is this a good soft sampler? Does it sound good?

How does it compare towards other soft samplers?

What about the ES1? Is this a good virtual synthersizer? Does it sound good? How is it compared to NI pro-52? Sound quality and all.

Please, let me know...

Also, here is something I really need to know. I have heard that you can record softsynth internally with your soundcard to make the sequence an audio file.

If I where to use the ES1 for example and created a midi track with it, could I convert/record that midi track into an audio track? If I can do this, anybody care to inform me how?

When you select an Audio Instrument channel in Logic, you then select the SoftSynth from the selecter at the top of the Audio Instrument fader..then its as simple as clicking record..and Viola a logic Wav file....is that what you meant?

EXS is great. No perceptable latency on my Mac G4/466, or maybe as much latency as a MIDI cable http://www.audioforums.com/forums/wink.gif. I'm using my old Audiowerk8 card as an 8 output front end for EXS. Sounds great (depending on hardware) and is very easy to use. I love having it all integrated in one program. ES1 sounds fantastic too, but for realism go with the Pro 5 thing.

At around $250, it's an excellent deal for Logic users and my personal experience has been problem free.

I'm using a PC. I was wondering, what if there is a lantency problem, can it be fixed or did "you" buy something you will not be able to use?

You mean the Pro-52 (native instruments). I have the demo and I like it. All I need for now is a sample playback. I'm shooting for the EXSP24. I need access to huge sound libraries. Other than that I'm cool. I can always use xtra synths, such as ES1 or Pro-52.

I'll probably try out the ES1, since it is the cheapest. Eventualy I'll get the pro-52 and I'd like to check out the Waldorf VST plug-in synth.

I think the upcoming ES2 will be something to look into!

I'm using ES1 and love it. I was just trying to avoid a "ES1 isn't as authentic as..." flame. I use a soft synth from NI called Pro-Five which sounds great too. It even has simulated wood grain http://www.audioforums.com/forums/wink.gif I'm not much of a synth guy, although when I want one I want it to sound good. You won't go wrong with ES1 and, like you say, for the price it's a great deal.

OK I like the system of EXS a lot but just dont understand following: it always saves sounds in my c partition in Sampler instruments folder. See, I just have to move those large files on some other, sound partition which has more space....so, how to persuade exs to save only on partion location that I want?PLEASSSSSEEEEEEEEEE ...I have 4.72 version. Thanks in advance for this trauma problem soluti0n

In Native Instruments software sampler Kontakt you can save your samples where you want.
you can download a demo version at http://www.ni-kontakt.com

i love exs 24 and, on the mac, you can save your samples in another folder by making an alias of the folder and putting it into the 'sampler instruments' folder for logic. not sure how that would work on a pc, though..

as for es1 vs pro-52 (soon to be pro-53). personally, i think the pro-52 has got it on the es-1, but that's NOT to say the es-1 isn't cool. i just find the pro-52 to be more flexible in the range of sounds you can get from it. i use both regularly and wouldn't really want to be without either one, but if i had to choose, i'd keep the pro-52.

i've been hearing great things about kontakt and i'm definitely going to check it out as soon as the mac version is available...

i wasn't too thrilled with the waldorf synth. i bought it, but hardly ever use it. you should decide for yourself - check it out before buying!

esx24 is very good for sound quality, ease of use, recycle file import (which is actually really cool, i only discovered how easy theyve made it not that long ago) and the filters are simple but nice. and also because its native to logic it will probably be the best in terms of system performance. but i have to agree with bombastique, kontakt looks amazing (how many filters??), and theyve got the whole crossgrade thing going on as well which makes it twice as tempting.
as for the es1, i use it loads but i wouldnt rely on it as my main source of bass/synth sounds, its a bit limited for that, but its still quality.
in reply to the other question - turning midi sequences from virtual instruments to audio tracks is a very simple process in logic - just use the bounce button and add the result to your track, thats it.
