I'm just breaking in to the world of samples. How do I get drum samples off the CD and into LAP(4.8.1-Mac)?
LAP does not have a sample playback function. I guess you could import a drum sound audio file into your project and place each drum manually but I don't think that's practical or what you're after. If you don't have any samplers or sound modules, hardware or software based, you'll probably want to find one. Emagic EXS24 is a nice softsampler product and will play well with Logic. You can use logic's standard sequencing capabilities when you've got that going.

Okay, what I was actually meaning is loops. How do I get drums loops and things into LAP?
While we're on the subject, though. I have an XV5080 which I only use for the Synth. Straight from the shop, unexpanded, no memory and no SCSI drive. How can I get samples into that?
Thanks for the help...

i've been importing drum loops from a sample CD into Logic on PC this evening, although i plan on trying this soon Mac, i'm not there yet...may be the long way but i'm new to this so bear with me.
1. dumped the whole CD to my HD via Audio Grabber(PC app for copying audio from cd's).
2. used Recycle(sample editing software) to edit the samples so they loop in a cyclical fashion. Recycle gives the ability to cut the samples so you can play individual elements once exported and not just have a continuous loop.
3. exported the sample along with midi file as a Soundfont.
4. copied the Soundfont file to Logic's Sampler Instruments folder(i think that's what it was) and when i opened the EXS24 in Logic the file appeared in the drop down list as an intrument.
5. dragged the midi file of same name into the arrangement window in Logic.
i then had 1 bar of 5 midi notes each playing the complete sample which was cut into 5 pieces previously in Recycle.
worked for me, i did all the drum breaks i plan on using...one thing to note was the tempo of each break as it appears in Recycle, this comes in handy when you eventually get it into Logic.

You can use the audio window (usually screenset #4) to import any audio into Logic. If you're using loops and you want to make sure the tempo in Logic matches that of the loop, bring the loop into the audio window (screenset #4), drag it over into the Arrange window - I usually do this by having both the audio window and the arrange window opened in the same screenset. Once you have it in the Arrange window, select a loop length that is the same length as your loop (if the loop is 4 bars, select a 4 bar loop in Logic), then go to Options>Tempo>Adjust tempo using object length and locators. The tempo will automatically be matched to the tempo of the loop. If you want to adjust the tempo/length of the loop to match a certain tempo, double click the loop object and then go to the 'Factory' menu - you can tell it the loops original tempo and the desired tempo and it will do the rest.
Hope that helps!

Got it all going, thanks. The main problem was that the iTunes extension wasn't enabled and I didn't have anything else to rip audio. The problem with that is that iTunes first converts audio to MP3 and then to AIF. Obviously losing quality. I decided to go and get Toast and rip it that way, once I've got the AIF the tempo stuff works brilliantly.
Thanks again for all the support...
