Can you say "USER ERROR"...well sort of...
First of all:

After much pain, frustration, and anguish....I am delighted to announce that I DO have all peices to my puzzle (AMD/XP/MOTU/Logic) talking to one another!!

I even DLed ALL NEW drivers from Gigabyte (mobo manufacturer) and MOTU.

It seems to be running flawlessly for now...only about an hour of playing with it so far to make this assumption.

The interesting part is HOW I had to get this to all work....NOT IN MANUAL!

I started out by installing the MOTU drivers (as stated in the manual) BEFORE the install of the PCI sound card....then installed it and rebooted....then the plug and play detected the PCI card and did IT'S install....so...I figured everything was cool...NOT....LOGIC DID NOT see any of the MOTU's ins or outs.

A Mac/DP/MOTU bud told me that you have to manually install the MOTU drivers because they are not auto-installed....hmmmm

Did not make much sense...but I DID start looking for a way to manually install the MOTU once again...could not find a specific driver file to place in the system folder or anyting like that ...so I just ran the install again (same as my step one)...

That's it!

After the 2nd install, everything seemed to be talking to each other.

If I experience any problems, I will report back...however, no news will mean NO NEWS!!! ...and also that I am busy at work with the new system!

Glad to hear you're up and running.

Which AMD processor and motherboard are you using? I am having a very difficult time solving a similar problem with my AMD
Athlon 1.2Ghz machine on a Via KT7A board.

I tried your technique and it doesn't work on my system. I'm using Windows ME though. I'm surprised to hear that you are using Windows XP. I believed that Emagic wouldn't support that until Logic 5. Any help is appreciated?

I am using a Gigabyte 7DXR...VERY Stable with Intel chipset.

Can't really tell you WHY this thing is working so well........but it is.

I had 24 tracks going with an average of 4 plugs per channel and 16 tracks of MIDI...the HD and CPU did not even register....TONS of headroom.......seems to have VERY little latency....two identical tracks that are recorded with two seperate passes have only a VERY slight phasing.

I also have 256 of DDR2400 Ram....

YIPPEEE!
