Apparently, you can convert single notes (eg, from guitar) into midi notation (possible in real time) in Logic Platinum. Anyone know how to do this??

???

Could you be more specific as to what you mean exactly ???

Using MIDI in Logic (VIA MIDI Keyboard or anything that can send MIDI data to Logic) you can create MIDI notation but if you are talking about recording audio and then creating notation I have never heard of this.

Perhaps you are talking about using an audio instrument...where you record a sound (wave file) and assign that sample to an audio instrument where you can play that back in real time from a MIDI keyboard or from the MIDI sequence, then, yes, you could do it that way, I guess....

What i meant is that i could record my guitar as a track in logic plat (yes, audio) and convert this audio into sheet music / midi notation. I could then use this to make my guitar into a sax or whatever.

Try double clicking on an audio file to get to the sample editor and i think i saw something related in a dropdown box.

Yes, audio can be converted to MIDI, someone I know has designed a hardware device for this for his master thesis but I don't think you can do it in Logic or any other sequencer program. But maybe I'm just not aware of. MAX (Mac)is a piece of multimediasoftware that can handle these kind of things in 'real time'. Maybe you could contact some people who work with it to find out more. There is a PC equivalent of MAX, but can't remember the name right now.
I think that audio to midi is far from flawless and that currently research still is going on on this matter.

There is a function in Logic to convert monophonic sounds into midi. I don't remember the name, but it's definately there. If you're just playing melodies, it should work fine. Chords are unlikely to work though.
I was messing around with a shareware prog a few weeks back (can't remember the name once again :-) which also worked pretty well. Was supposed to be monophonic, but worked pretty well on a full piano piece. he technology is very nearly there!

Found it!

Double click on the sample and when in the sample editor, goto drop down box (in think it's the factory one) and you can convert audio to midi or audio to score.

Actually works pretty good, but as Sheriton said, only melodies.
