OK... let's say I apply all the FX that I need in the object editor... How the hell do I DESTRUCTIVELY apply ALL of the FX to the object? Remember: DESTRUCTIVELY!

Just don't tell me I have to do a "mix down", because that ain't worth the time...

BTW... Happy New Year! http://www.audioforums.com/forums/biggrin.gif

Hi Major Audiot.

There are different ways to put FX to your material. One is exactly what you did. You click on one object or in different ones together while clicking the shift key, After selected, click twice on them to open the Object Editor, select the FXs and done.

Remember that while working with the Object Editor you still have the chance to keep clicking on new objects at will or to deselect those you will not selected anymore.

Same if you use the track view. Click on the plugins botton and add in a chain all FXs you wish to a track.

Also in the mixer you can do the same; plus use the build in Comps,Delays/Revebs/EQ, etc.

Destructive FXs(do it with a lot of care) are done by selecting an abject: Click with the right mouse; it will popup a menu; select Effects(destructive) and you are there. These FXs are very great, just that when you close the VIP after putting FXs in this way the savings are forever. You can undo while you are there testing them.

Thanks, Xanto!

I know the different ways to apply FX to the object, track, master etc... I just hoped there would be a way - when you work in the object editor - to apply all the effects at once to the object, just by a click of a button (cakewalk users should know what I'm talking about). It would be much easier than right clicking - choose FX - apply FX, then right clicking again - choose FX - apply FX... and on and on and on...

Hi Major Audiot.

The concept of Samp is Virtual. Nothing more nothing less. So, as most important step to FX is that NEVER the Audio Material is altered by any mean. I totally support this way due is save. VIP means Virtual Project and the most of the tasks on the graphic representing the wave is done "Virtually" without altering the real audio material. You should understand this as good as possible to acept why you can´t do certain things from your most used method.

The Object Editor is a non-modal interface, which means you can work in the Object Editor and still work in the VIP at the same time.

You asked about making destructive FX and there is a way without mixing down as I told you, Right? In fact; there are 2 ways to destructive FXs:

One

You can switch to the Wave project window by right clicking on the object and call ”Wave Editing”. A window with the Wave project will be opened with a selected range, which corresponds with the part of the Wave file the object refers to.

Second:

Select the object and apply the effect directly on the object. Most of the effect’s menu functions can be performed directly on a VIP object.
All selected objects in VIP projects are processed with their complete content, no
matter which range is selected in the virtual project.

I find very easy to click the right mouse to any part, to any object or to some of them together to put destructive FXs.

Take in mind that from the destructive FX menu ONLY "normalize" will be Virtual. All the rest are destructive.

You must have "enable the Create Copy option"
(in each Effect’s window), the processed audio will be appended to the end
of the original (dry) audio file and can be undo. Or having this option unselected, you can´t undo. Does Cakewalk has this feature??

Hope this helps.

There are certain effects (such as advanced dynamics) which are only available in the object editor. I too would like the option to destructively apply these effects to a track for mix down in order to conserve cpu. Is there a way to apply these changes in the object editor to a track? Is the only way to bounce the track? If so that will work for me, just asking in case there is an option without bouncing.

I've asked for "bounce object" and "copy object" on one of the whish lists but for now ;
set "snap" to object and mark over the object (remove the fades first) making sure it clicks to each end. Solo the track and trackbounce choosing "only marked area" and "replace objects in VIP" - save with new name.
Done.

cheers

Thanks Martin. I really like the advanced dynamics and wish it were an option available in the destructive effects list as well as available for the mixer inserts. This will do me just fine, though, and I really appreciate your help.
I am sure that it would be a pretty easy matter to add an "apply" option to the object editor which would make a back-up of the original file, and replace the original with the processed track in the timeline of the arrange. Makes perfect sense to me, but most probably have a more powerful computer that makes this issue irrelevent. This suddenly allows me to ease the strain on my system without compromising which processing is available.
Thanks again
