As a newbie, I will ask a newbie question that you who are experienced with this product can guide me in my decision.

TimZ has talked me in to trying Samp. on another site (thanks-Tim!). I have downloaded the Studio demo and have been using Studio 6.0 for about a month now. I love this product, I understand it exists no longer and I can buy it for $199 - $279. I do no midi and vst effects are cool but pricy and I have no interest in soundtracks.

Is there something I should think about before I settle on Studio? Beyond future product development, I don't seem to benefit from the most cutsheet features. But I know that the proof is in the pudding so you who record with Producer tell me is there something else I should consider that would make want to buy Producer 6.5?

Thanks a bunch,
Jim

I have the studio too.if you need surround,a lot of aux/busses than you need the producer.btw,in 6.5 its samp 6.5 or samp pro.

i still dont know a lot of the changes from 6.04 to 6.5 samp.but i know there are some changes and i believe automation was mentioned by someone in this forum.there is a comparison chart between the 6.5 and 6.5 pro that was listed by someone in here.i am sure they have it at nowhere to find emagics' site.

if i were you i would wait a few weeks to see whats up with samp.i believe the 6.5 is out in september.

I looked at a comparison chart that I found somewhere, but I it is the "where the rubber meets the road" I am interested in.

I would like to wait and see the new version, but with everything in upheavel with the Apple hands in the pie, I just don't want to miss the boat, (dealers are selling out of Studio) if you know what I mean.

Thanks

heck, even if we didnt have 6.5,the v6 samp is one hell of a software that i can use for years to come.we just got a copy from a site called camelot in canada.for us$132 shipped.lol
i mean what can we ask more from a completely proffessional and an awsome software that there's no comparison with others imho.i have used, tried or demoed all eccept dp3.imo no one comes close to samp v6.

Hi - I use Producer, and love it....but I would be equally happy with Studio. In Version 6.0, or 6.04, the difference is minimal.....Surround mixing, video editing, and more Aux busses. I've never used more than 6 aux busses, especially given that they are stereo. IF and WHEN DVD Audio becomes mainstream, then surround mixing will become important, so I'm glad to have that capability ready.
Now the upcoming version 6.5 is another story all together. 6.5 Pro will have many more features than regular Samp, and for many it will be worth the extra money. For now though, given what you've told us, I think you'll be very happy with Studio 6.0, which has everything you need to produce stellar CD's.
Cheers, RD

Hi Jim

I went through the same decsion process when I purchased. I came to the conclusion that the only thing Producer had for me over Studio was the extra aux busses. So I decided to go with Studio. Also, at the time I purchased there were great deals to be had on Studio, but not for Producer, so that helped make my decision.

Have fun

I have Producer and I got it at the academic price of $299 (cause I'm a college student) through alexuniv.com. Otherwise I probably would have gone with Studio.

Thank you everybody for your thoughtful replies. I am learning alot just from reading all the different posts. Your info is surely going to help me decide, which I will need to do soon.

I had to use Cakewalk PA9 tonite to work with someones elses tracks and most definitely Samp Rules!

Thanks Again,
Jim
