View Full Version : Using outboard effect unit with Samp?

I have decided to sell a bunch of my outboard rack gear now that I am working fully within Samp, and not using much anymore. However, I am looking at purchasing one unit (the TC M-One XL) for monitoring purposes at the mixer while tracking, and for the digital I/O.

If I understand this right (haven't done this yet) I will hook up my Hammerfall S/PDIF diital out to the M-One digital in, and then the M-One digital out to the Hammerfall S/PDIF in. few questions:

1. Can I assume that if I want to do internal mixdowns within Samp using the M-One effects, that I will have to record a "wet" track in Samp to accomplish this?

2. Is this as simple as assigning the track output that I want the effect on to the M-One input and then record the M-One wet digital signal on another track? Or do I need to use an Aux Send for this?

3. Will I be able to utilize the M-One in any other way while it is digitally connected?

Cheers

Tim

Hi Tim...I have done this with the TCM300...

1. either digital or analog out from channel or aux...set the reverb's return to a regular track, set to record.

2. Activate 'input live' mode

3. You may want to adjust the offset during recording, or just move the whole reverbed track to proper synch during editing...this is very important, as if you skip this step, you'll hear some pretty funky phasing and filtering...

4. Can't say about other capabilities of the M-One...but with the cheapie TC, I can tweak effects on the fly.

Hope this helps...and "rotsa-ruck!"

Thanks Wireline

Haven't used the "live input" for anything yet. Why would I need to activate it?

I think it allows you to actually hear the reverb as it comes back in.

Good point, Tim; I'm in the same situation with old effects that I no longer use or need. (Just realized my old REV 7 hasn't been touched in about 2 years now!)

On the rare occasion that I need it, I've been going out for effects the old fashioned way (full duplex second sound card)and there are latency issues, depending on the effect.

Usually, I just "print" the effect to a new track once I've set it up the way I want it. I'm wondering if the ASIO drivers in 6.5 will truly help with this, and of course I"ll have to get some new hardware to take advantage of that as well..... This should be an interesting topic to watch in the next round of upgrades.

<<<Sigh>>> IF there are any...not to wonder off topic, but the disappearance of any official word has me concerned...
