... to visit the "news.sekd.com" a few days in a row. The great Samplitude fan I am, I felt somewhat obligated to do that. And I found it rather interesting... This is what I've learned so far (in no particular order):

Some of the rules and mentality of "news.sekd.com"

1. If you're not good in English (writing) - await THE insult pretty soon.

2. Don't post HTML - you'll get angry "V36 modem" users all over you who would like to eat you for breakfast.

3. Post BINARY, and you'll get your ass kicked faster than you can say "I Love Logic".

4. Learn the NG rules: "how to quote" - in GERMAN!!! You don't speak German? Too bad!

5. Unless you talk nicely about Samplitude and/or the "news.sekd.com" itself - and sometimes kiss a little ass - your "ideas are of no interest here". And then you can go to hell.

6. HTML based news groups (forums like this one for instance) are slow, annoying, and considered playgrounds. Also, they have "silly user names". (NOTE: "The Realm", "samdev", "Hal 9000", "Dr.Noise", "Cool", "Ignoramus", "Bohemian", "Atom B", "Emagic" etc are some of the user names over at "news.sekd.com".)

7. The "news.sekd.com" is equal to "fast communication". Period! http://www.westwoodi.net/~smilies/contrib/ruinkai/yelcutelaughA.gif

8. You should be thankful, because "news.sekd.com" is "free"! - Yes? And your point is...?

9. "Newsgroups do what they were intended to do... Broadcast the news" - OH, REALLY!?

10. Further postings of "their Audiot" will be ignored - Oh, no! http://www.westwoodi.net/~smilies/cwm/cwm/cwm14.gif

Most of the above (not all), I learned from one devoted "NG Police" who "smells" all the "rule breakers". He's everywhere! Post a message in HTML instead of plain text, or "say" something he personally doesn't like... Then SWWOOOOOSH! [Super Hero Fanfare here]! - he's there, like "naughty, naughty". http://www.westwoodi.net/~smilies/contrib/blackeye/2ar15smilie.gif

MAN!!! Don't you just love it!? The "news.sekd.com" is DA PLACE!

Yours Truly,
Major Audiot

Hmmmmmm ........ looks like someone got their feelings hurt. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/frown.gif
I've read your posts and you definitely have an attitude problem. You need to learn the difference between being opinionated and being an ass. There are MANY other people that use the Sek'D news group with no problems ............... except for you. You used the news group, then started to throw some attitude around and got your hand slapped.
The people that replied to your posts were doing nothing more than answering your
questions. You just didn't like the answers. Now you come to this forum and attempt to degrade the Sek'D news group. Very childish. All one needs to do is read the posts at the Sekd ng to see that there are two sides to every one of your listed complaints. Please grow up. Until then, no one is forcing you to frequent the Sek'D news group.

You seem pretty offended. I saw that reply you got (only one - if there are more I did not see them). I must say, that if it is like that over there, I find it pretty cool.

I have a 1mb line myself, but I tried a 64kb line recently. It was so slow. Much slower, that when I had such a connection. The reason is - today the "maximum" size of a webpage, wich used to be 50kb (or you will get no customers) has increased tremendously.

Think about it:
200kb takes 40seconds with a modem
200kb takes 2seconds with a 1mb connection

It is easy to get blinded by speed, so if a place exists, where people on slow connections (some have no choise) can efficiently share information - I realy think it is good to them.

Just some thoughts, as you seem to take it quite personally.

The ng has been VERY good for me. Everyone there tends to be very level headed and really tries to help out. You also get help very quickly from very knowledgable users and programmers for Samp. I totally disagree with MA's assessment/critic (if you can call it that) of the ng.

MA you seem to spend more of your time complaining/whining about things and less time actually recording.

8. You should be thankful, because "news.sekd.com" is "free"! - Yes? And your point is...?

no I think what was meant here is you should be thankful that Sekd lets the Samplitude users still use their news server... after all, Sekd hasn't been affiliated with Samplitude for some time now, but they are nice enough to let the Samplitude users still use the Sekd newsgroup for Samplitude... I think thats what was meant by you should be thankful it is free...

and as for some of those other things, like not posting in HTML and not posting in binary are just good newsgroup etticate.

and yes there is alot of german on the newsgroup since there are alot of german samplitude users (thats why samplitude.de exsited before samplitude.com... I think the developers are german too... weird how alot of audio production software companies/developers are german or got their start in germany)

The page does seem to be a bit stuffy at times, but there is no denying the best Samp users and brains openly share their information there...Seems to be more of a European cultural thing; not wrong at all just not what most of us are used to...

MA: I always look forward to reading your posts...there and here...but we do share a common trait, in that I usually retype messages 3-4 times over there just so I don't confuse/offend anyone with a West Texas point of view and communication...
