Hello all,

I am seriously considering getting a DSP card for my system...

there is the Mackie UAD-1 and then there is the TC-Works PowerCore. has anybody heard both of these and can offer any advise on which one gives more bang?

sometimes I use guitar amp modelling, and I use Amplitube right now, but I've heard the UAD-1 have a guitar amp modeler (Nigel I think) that blows away any software modeler. I don't think the Powercore has a guitar amp modeler, but it looks like it has a bunch of other cool stuff I could use...

ohh if I had the money I'd probably get both, but since I don't... oh I just don't know... any input is appriciated.

peace

Hi JD - Tough call on which of those two to buy. The answer is both, but I couldn't get both at once either. I went with the TC card to start, based solely on the reverb issue. Both the Megaverb and the Realverb are good, but I think the conseses is that the Megaverb is better. UA is working on a "Dreamverb" for their card, but I'm not sure when it will be done. So, in a nutshell...
TC Powercore - Better reverb, open platform (third party plugs).

UAD1 - Better compressors, closed platform.

I didn't get a chance to hear the UAD card, but I can tell you the TC sounds great.
There's a thread on the merits of the two choices here. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TCpowercore/

Some more thoughts:

UAD: Closed platform, but additional Plugins have been free so far. The Compressors and the new Pultec EQ use a autheticity in the GUI that makes me wonder. I mean the EQ sounds real fat but does it really have to use a 4 position switch for the frequency selection?

Powercore: There are third party plugins and additional T.C.plugins available, but don't forget to take a look at the pricetag.
The hardware with the basic plugin set is very affordable while the price of additional software plugins is in the same range as TDM Plugins (= considerably more than what is asked for a decent VST Plugin) I don't mean to say that the software is too expensive. I just think that it will be out of the range for many Powercore users.
