From the Samplitude news group:
_________________________________________
Dear Samplitude Users,

since the Musikmesse Frankfurt the team at Emagic has been very busy
completing and shipping new products and I apologize for not posting an
update in this forum any earlier. Users and dealers have received our new
releases with tremendous enthusiasm and dozens of glowing reviews in the
trade press clearly confirm that we have kept our promise: To deliver
innovative products of the highest quality. In an elsewise difficult market
we have created a remarkably positive business environment and this is the
perfect time for a powerful launch of the new Samplitude line of products.

The wonderful developers at Magix and the Samplitude team at Emagic have
worked very closely over the past months to put together a combination of
Samplitude versions that aims at meeting the market requirements and the
expectations of new and existing users. The product line has been harmonized
with our Logic Audio 5 line of products and consists of two packages.

1. Samplitude

The new standard for ultra fast audio editing including new features such as
ASIO support and POW-R Dithering.

Suggested retail: ? 499,-

2. Samplitude Pro 6.5

Scheduled for release in August 2002 this is the version for professionals
and the successor of the previous 2496 version. The new Samplitude Pro 6.5
will include new powerful features such as POW-r dithering, Logic Control
support, ASIO support with direct monitoring, support for VST 2.0 plug-ins
and instruments, as well as extended latency compensation for DSP cards such
as t.c. PowerCore or Universal Audio UAD-1.

Recommended retail price for new Product: ? 749,-

Recommended retail update price for existing Samplitude Producer 2496 users:
?129,-

Focusing on two versions only will make the handling of the Samplitude
business easier and therefore more attractive for every party involved. By
combining powerful features with a highly efficient workflow, Samplitude Pro
is poised to compete with other solutions and set to win significant market
share in 2002. The standard Samplitude provides ample functionality and
maximum ease of use at a very attractive entry level price. Both versions
are members of the existing family of Emagic Studio Tools and I expect the
new Samplitude to win the sympathy of tens of thousands of musicians in the
next 2 years. To achieve this goal we will run international ad campaigns,
conduct workshop tours and provide training and very competent Hotline
Support.

The staff at Emagic is truly excited to start the process of moving
Samplitude to the place it belongs: To The Top.

Please stay tuned for more details as we continue to complete the Samplitude
product boxes for massive shipping in June. Update pricing and policies will
be published on the Emagic website first.

Best regards,

Sven Junge

I don't know, Major - I don't think you're right. Seems like it's different enough from their current products to be its own program.

I guess we still have to wait and see, but I think it's nothing but good news.

Maybe it's the end of Logic Audio .. ;-)

Serious now. It would be great that Emagic will develope 3 tools like these (Logic Platinum, Samplitude Pro and Sequoia) in a "perfect" way. Logic for composition and arrangements, Samplitude for multitrack recording and editing, even mixing (sustitute of Logic), and Sequoia in the mastering purposes.

And for this, Emagic doesn't need a lot of work, only put VST and ASIO compatibilities in Samplitude (thing that will do)... and the AUTOMATION of Logic 5. Nothing more!!!

Cheers.. Zep.

Emagic added VST support to Samplitude and can't even get VST to fully work under Logic. That scares me.

Support for Locic Control, is there support for any other control surfaces? Or are people supposed to sell the control surfaces that they have now and go out and buy a controller that only works with 2, or is it 3, products?

One of the features that I've always liked about Samplitude was the ability to use multiple audio cards from different manufacturers simultaniously. Am I now going to have to sell my Gina24 and my Layla24 and switch to M-Audio so I can still use my TDIF Pro and my TM-D24?

I think that the forecast that Emagic would kill the product were a little exagerated, but I do believe that they've seriously crippled the product and alienated a few of it's long term users.

Well, that doesn't sound like they plan to kill it. As far as the proprietary control surface interface, I was lobbying for an open approach (being an 03D owner), but once I checked out the Logic Control, I dropped my case..it's the dogs nutz. It would be worse if they roped you in, and then charged 2 grand for your one choice, but at $950 it'll be worth getting a CS that's optimised for the app.
I'm also about to order a DSP card, the Powercore I think, but the UAD looks good too. So, latency compensation is sounding real good too, as is real VST support.
I was bracing for the big hit on the upgrade price, so $129 sounds ok for what I'm gaining. Hell, there even throwing in a dongle for that price...what a deal. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/rolleyes.gif
Of course the whole thing could be buggy, and could sound different, we'll just have to see when it comes out, but so far this is all good news to me.
Cheers, RD

well as far as I can tell Samp is still being developed by the samdev team... same team that developed it under Sekd, same team that developed it under Magix, and still the same team that is developing it under Emagic... all that has changed over the years is distribution (and well vision from the disributing company)... I fell quite sure that the team that develops Logic does not have very much to do with Samplitude 6.5 development (except maybe the Logic Control implementation or something like that)...

OK, they're not killing it... let's just say they gave it one VERY BAD slap in the face, it turned "blue"... http://www.audioforums.com/forums/wink.gif

<<And for this, Emagic doesn't need a lot of work, only put VST and ASIO compatibilities in Samplitude (thing that will do)... and the AUTOMATION of Logic 5. Nothing more!!!>>

This has often posted in the Sam group from the developers: Emagic has nothing to do with the Samplitude development, is only the new sales for the professional audio software line from Magix.
The only thing Emagic has done, is the new (and in my opinion ugly blue interface).

ASIO, VST instruments and VST/DirectX with latency compensation (also in busses and auxes) in 6.5 Pro were developments from the Magix team. This means also, the Logic automation or more Midi can not transfered to Samplitude. They have to build there own.

A guy told me, there were more cool developments (rumours say, the realtime room simulator is ready since a long time!), Emagic does not want in the next Samplitude, only in the expensive Sequoia, so most people will not see it.

Emagic seems to be a little bit to optimistic about the sales. Unfortunately, I donīt believe, there is a big market for an audio only product, like Samplitude, wich isnīt really ready for professionals (no OMF, AES1, Sony 9 pin ...). Think about the Nuendo flop. Think also about Digidesign, bringing more and more Midi to Pro Tools.

But we should wish Emagic all the luck.
