I just got a 32x Liteon burner, but notice that Samp only allows me to burn up to 16x. Is that max with Samp?

Nope. I have a 20/10/40 that actually burns at 21. I don't know what the limit is, or if there even is one, but it's not 16.

Any idea then why Samp only allows me a 16x max when I have a 32x burner?

It will limit you to the maximum burn speed of the burner or media (as is typical of most burning software I know) so my guess is that you're using 16x cdr's. The only blank media I have lying around that's slower than my burners max speed is some 2x cdrw's so I just popped one in & opened Samp & Hit Burn CD to see what would happen & sure enough it was limited to 2x max. With any of my cdr's (which are all 16x) Samp allows me the full max speed of my burner which is 12x.

Well that would make sense if I was using 16x max CDR's, but I just purchased a 50 pack of max 48x CDR's, and it still only allows me a maximum write speed of 16x. My burner is a 32x. Not that I am complaining, as 16x is much more than my previous 4x SCSI burner, but I am curious as to why I am getting this 16x max?

I get the full 32x in Nero, but unfortunately my version of Wavelab 3.0 max's out at 10x.

Now that is a curiosity & I had a sneaky suspicion that might be your reply as I figured you would know the media had to support the higher burn speeds. Have you tried the burner with another burning software to see if they give you the higher speed options? Could be a firmware bug for your burner. You might want to check & see if there is a firmware update for download. This was recently the cure for a friend of mine when his new burner wasn't getting full speed availability
