I'm still looking around for the perfect DAW for me. One feature that I really need is some kind of "object organizer", perhaps a list or window that contains my edited objects or audio events (as opposed to the actual files). I need this to keep organized as I am working on a project. I would like to be able to place an object in the list, and later drag it from the list into the multi-track editor.
I thought this would be a standard feature on a DAW but Samplitude doesen't seem to have anything like this. Or am I missing something? Is there an editor with this feature? I've also looked at Nuendo and Cool Edit and found them both wanting, I'm sorry to say...

Hi,

I know that some people miss this but how about having a seperate VIP open as a Object Dump - just Ctrl+Drag your objects into it and leave them there.
Of course I may be missing the point, I do mostly live studio work and have never missed this feature.
cheers

Thanks! Thats a good idea, but it's still not very practical for a large number of objects. There must be some software that has an "object editor". It just seems like such an obvious thing to include..?

Wavelab 3 does this inside of Audio Montage, but Wavelab isn't really made for multitrack recording. I think it's a good idea, and probably very easy to impliment. In a way, it does exist, as you can create a default directory for insert object and place your objects in there. Windows will organize them by your choice of alphabetical, ext, file size, etc.

Cool Edit Pro does do this, doesn't it? In that you have a little window, F9 brings it up I think, and every wave used in the session is in this waveform list. When you edit a wave it appears in the list as 'track2(2)' for example. And you can drag and drop any wave from there into any place in a session.

Samplitude has the all of the above(I think), take managers, object editors and the like. I haven't studied it in to much detail yet though.
