there's a diference? any comparisons between this technology and others P4 audio performances?
I'm getting a notebook to be my DAW - maybe a sager 5670 - and this is a main doubt.

hey, Conejo.
as far as HT goes, it depends on the chipset of your motherboard. if the laptop uses any 845 chipset the hyper-threading (if enabled) will probably cause more problems than not.
with the newer sets intel put out, the 875 and 855, the HT is much more stable and won't cause NEARLY the problems that it did on earlier boards. of course, most software packages still can't take advantage of the technology, yet ... we probably have a whole other generation of software versions in front of us before HT really starts to help.
either way, you can always turn the threading off in your BIOS and use the processor as a straight-forward P4. even if you leave the setting turned off, you'll at least have the option down the road to take advantage of it.

That's pretty much the story right now.But even if the software were ready, unless Intel does something about it's poor FPU performance and denormal problems and generally poor design,it wouldn't be my first choice anyway, even with functioning Hyperthreading. So far,all hyperthreading does for Intel is add a bit more power which it already has enough of these day's.I fail to see any advantage of this technology with the current design of P4 chips.Perhaps when they come up with something else.

thanks guys.
we're talking about how much time here? co's i'm buying a sager 5670, a mbox and a lacie firewire driver to be my mobile setup, and the top of the series has HT, 3.06GHz. Should I pick one of these and be prepared for the future, or the future is too far for it, let's say, 3 years?
Anyway, thnks again and cheers from brasil

Check out Nuendo 2. It will support up to 8 processors, automatically spreading the load evenly. It's due out any day now, but if you go buy V1.6, the current one, you'll get a FREE upgrade to v2 plus you'll get to keep the v1.6 dongle for setting up a systemlink rig.
Top value, and much much better than PT, either the lite OR the full version.
check it out on www.nuendouk.com (http://www.nuendouk.com)

what benefits are there in Nuendo over Cubase SX for people who aren't working with pictures (I'm well chuffed with SX.
I'd say its as good as Protool Mix which Ive worked on in the past)
