does win98 work with 512mb sdram?

few day's ago i have buy 256mb sdram to my DAW and now i have 512mb sdram ,
i didn't noticed a difference betwen 256 to 512 .

the computer recognize 512mb .

i have heard that win98 can work up to 256mb
and with xp it much better, right?

yes you are right.. that is the story.

though I have to admit that I think I did notice a difference when I upgraded to 512 on my win98se system.. hmmm maybe it was just me http://www.audioforums.com/forums/wink.gif

If your Win98 system with all apps running is not consuming greater than 256MB memory total, then going to 512MB will not get you any better performance.

I have a Win98 Athlon 1700 XP game-playing machine that started off with only 256MB memory and could also tell no difference in performance when I added another stick of memory to increase to 512MB... that is until I started running some new games that eat up the additional memory and then it does make a difference to have 512MB.

yes. 98 will start having diminishing returns over 256MBR. 98SE will start having these diminishing returns over 512MBR UNLESS you go to the microsoft knowledge base and look up the fix. (forget where exactly).

It involves Start>Run>system.ini and your Vcache if I recall correctly. Then you can install up to 1.5 Gig.

You can upgrade your 98 to 98Se at the same pages with the exception of firewire support.

I wonder if the guys at litepc could have this fix done when you install 98lite?

does in win XP there is the same problem
or it works with 512MB ram better then
win98 ?
