MOTU Problem

My MOTU 1224/2408 setup tonight started outputing distorted signal not matter what output I choose. It was working fine all day. I reloaded the PCI 324 software and the hardware but no help. It distorts with Samplitude and windows playback...no matter how quiet I turn the output down the resulting playback is distorted..no meters anywhere near red.
any help for this?

I would 1st check the headphone out of the MOTU. If that's OK then what are you running the outputs through? I would check that part of thr chain as the possible source by sending the output of abother known to be working audio device.

I have played through both digital and my analog tracking chain and all output is distorted. the analog chain is through the 1224 analog outs through a hardware mixer.
