what exactly is Essex (I.E. Cubase SX)??
I mean is it basically just Nuendo with some added in MIDI features from Cubase or is it basically just Cubase with a better audio engine?
I've looked at the screenshots and the layout looks very much like Nuendo with a new skin ontop.
Does anybody know what audio engine it is using?
thanks

It is basically NUENDO audio + SCORE from VST 5.1 + some MIDI from VST 5.1 = SX.
I have not received my SX copy, but when I do, I will have a better idea. Anyway, I believe SX is whatever VST 5.1 failed to do.
My only complaint is the lack of paper manual.
Nuendo has the same audio engine as nuendo, its kinda built off nuendo, but it has all the midi features of cubase. so basically its nuendo and cubase in 1 program with new plugins, a new mixer bla bla bla...at a good price...nuendo 2 will still be comming out later this year

I've got VST24, and am looking at doing the upgrade to SX... my question is, when you upgrade, do they want the security dongle back, or do we get to keep our old version of software too.
Reason is, I'm not ready for a huge learning curve yet (in the middle of tons of projects) and the down time could kill me, not to mention my clients!
Anyone know?
Thanks,

Actually, you keep your old licence and dongle. Furthermore, they will be getting a release for VST 5.1 with system link. The idea here is to link both programs. But now I am thinking, if you have SX, why would you want to go back to 5.1?

i tried the cubase sx beta, there are some control improvements etc.but since i am a diehard samplitude 6 lover and ofcourse for a reason.the sx didnt impress me much.but again thats my opinion and cubase users might like it better.but defenately theres improvement between cubase and sx and its better if u are a cubase user imo.
the only thing at least i would have wished
from sx is the mixer layout better and having to be able to monitor fullscreen of 24 tracks at least.but then again i just tried it for a few days and thats not enough for complete analysis, since i am a samp6 man ,i know for sure in my book samp 6 is the one for now and may be for a long time to come.
just an humble opinion thats all.

The idea of the system link isn't to link 2 versions on the same machine, but rather to use a second machine to run VST effects and synths freeing up the CPU of your main. The effects on the 2nd PC show up in your main program but run off the 2nd PC's CPU.

diminished,
I believe the cubase beta is nothing similar to the real thing according to Steinberg.
Alan,
What you said is correct and I did not imply the contrary. The idea behind keeping the dongle is you will have two machines but one machine will be running SX and the other VST 5.1 and linking both versions by system link. I do not think it is one copy with two machines or two copies with one machine. It is two copies on two machines.

this thread should have stayed dead... let it die now.
