Cubase5/Reason - can't change Reason parameters

I'm using Cubase 5 to drive Reason. In the arrangement window I can select all my Reason instruments and play them no problem.

However, I can't change Reason mixer settings via Cubase. For example, I want to pan a Reason instrument over to the left but I can't do it. The only way I can do it is by actually changing the mixer settings in Reason. This goes for all the parameters (velocity, volume, etc).

Does this sound right? I would have expected to be able to change these parameters via Cubase but perhaps I'm expecting too much.

Any ideas anyone?

I haven't done alot of work in this configuration but I think you might find what you need in the setup of Rewire. There you can route the outputs of each Reason instrument to a channel in the Cubase mixer window.
