Hello everyone,

Currently I am a user of Vegas Video 3.0 and have had no problems with it doing professional recording for the past 2 years.

I use a tascam DM-24 as my front end and all is smooth.

I lead two musical lives:

1. I run a small project studio doing demos and smaller album projects for people, and I do sound design for audio libraries.

2. I am a keyboard player and percussionist in a Tribal Ambient Space Music group. We do experimental instrumental organic music.

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading to Nuendo, but now am tempted by the soon to be released SX.

Which is better and what does one offer that the other does not ???

A few more of my qualifications are:

1. Even though I am a keyboard player, I use no midi sequencing, I track everything.

2. I am interrested however in the softsynth revolution

3. I have a ton of Direct X plug ins, will they run on either program (waves gold, Tc works, etc)?

4. We are starting to get involved in sound for video.

5. I am an audio fidelity nut.
6. I like automated mixing and working with audio / volume envelopes

Thanks for any and all advice you guys can offer.

Cubase SX is pretty much 95% the same as Nuendo with an updated look, but most of the same features. Slightly better MIDI support in SX, less video/post support.

The advantages over Vegas would be VST support and the soft-synth support (VSTIs). Your directx plugs will work fine and a few of the TC plugs are also VST and Waves has a VST shell that gives you plug-in automation and plug-in delay compensation. Vegas has a much cleaner user interface, and it may take you a while to get over the Steinberg way of managing multiple windows.

It would be helpful for Steinberg to put up a nice feature comparison chart to help users understand which product to buy - they could learn something from the Sonic Foundry site, for example.

At any rate, if you don't plan to do video or post work, Cubase SX will cost you less and do what you want.

I use Neundo regularly and have been checking out SX. For my work (audio tracking /mixing) , they are nearly equivalent so far.

Hey thanks, this helps.

I heard a rumor that you could import and export Pro Tools sessions in Nuendo is this true and is it also true of SX ?

Yes you can import/export OMF in Nuendo. Not in SX.
However SX already has SYstemslink...which Nuendo won't have until the next upgrade.

You must try Samplitude before you rush out and buy something.
Best App there is and most suited to what you need.
VSTi is in the next release.
The ! 90 day demo ! (fully functional) can be had from www.samplitude.com (http://www.samplitude.com)
