I recently went to Micro Center and purchased a Powerspec computer for 500 bucks! It is a pentium 2.4ghzx with a 40 gb ultra ata 100, and 512 mb of ram (had to pay 40 bucks for that).

This is an upgrade from my last system which was PIII 500 with 256 ram, and 2 scsi II barracuda drives, and 1 scsi cheeta drive.

The 2.4 computer is operating incredibly. I was a bit skeptical before buying it because I know all the mumbo-kumbo about tru and tried hardware etc...but this thing rocks...and it is blowing away my buddies 2.0 pentium that was made with the "right parts".

Windows XP is proving to be a great audio platform to operate under. No problems...no hiccups. Great driver support from M-Audio, and no problems from Nuendo, or any of my waves plugins.

I am, to say the, shocked. I bought this machine to use for the internet, and simple audio edits. I just opened a session that I had to stem mix on my other computer, and it played flawlessly on this machine.

43 tracks of 24 bit audio at 44.1, with plugins on almost every track, and three reverbs on the master sends section....not even half of the CPU or Disk meters flashing. no hiccups, no buffer underruns, no bull****. WOW....we have come a long way.

Just a half-a-dozen years ago, I was running a graphics studio at a catalog company and paid $10,000 for that much ram, and I was paying $2500 for 9Gb scsi drives and $2000 for 19" monitors.

We have come a long way.
